E had a play date yesterday. We went to an indoor park that has an open gym and 'Adventure Park'--a space to climb, crawl, slide and run. A great indoor space considering it's April and we are still getting snow storms.

While there, E climbed all over and showed no fear. I, in fact, was struggling to keep up with her. And sweating. Yes, I was sweating as I tried keeping up with my almost-4-year-old. I think I may need to hit the gym.

While we were climbing on our journey to find the very top, a little boy fell in step next to E. He turned to me and asked if he could be friends with her.

"Of course you can be friends!" was my reply.

He then turned to E and asked her if she wanted to be his friend.

E looked at him, smiled really big and said, "Yes! I'll be your friend!" and giggled as she followed him up the rest of the way.

Periodically he stopped to wait for E as he was a little bigger and moved slightly faster. And they held hands as they went down some of the slides together.

I watched them together realizing my baby girl was growing up. She's going out in the world, making her own choices and friends. And I can't always follow her. From a physical standpoint (did I mention just how much I was sweating as we made our way to the top?) and from an emotional one. She needs the freedom to make her own way.

Am I ready? I don't know if a mom (or dad) is ever really ready. I suppose my first step is not following E to the top of Adventure Land. Got to start somewhere.
