B's Birthday Survey, 2015

April 24, 2015

I started this last year and love how much more articulate B has become over the past twelve months. It's hard to remember that there was a time I was actually worried about his lack of talking.

That is not a problem anymore.

Here are a few of B's favorite things.

  • Age: 4
  • Favorite Color: Blue
  • Best Friend: Ali (E wasn't entirely happy with that response.)
  • Favorite Snack/Treat: Chex Mix
  • What do you want to be when you grow up: Go potty. (This has obviously been a focus in our house over the past week.)
  • Favorite Song(s): "badoo-ah, badoo-ah" ("Uptown Funk"--when that song comes on, he looks like this.)

  • Favorite TV Show: Miles From Tomorowland
  • Favorite thing to do with family: Go on airplanes.
  • Favorite Book: "Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site"
  • What do you like for breakfast: Oatmeal
  • Most important thing learned so far: Go potty. (I swear I did not tell him to say this. But I couldn't agree more.)
  • Favorite Toy: Legos
  • Are you afraid of anything: Yes! I scared. I want to cuddle. (Always with the cuddle. I'm not complaining.)
  • Favorite thing for dinner: turkey burgers
  • Favorite thing to do outside: Go down the slide
  • Favorite place to visit: Grandma's house. And Milwaukee.
  • Mom’s favorite thing to do with you: Read stories and cuddle.
  • Dad’s favorite thing to do with you: Run around outside and kick the ball.
  • What is one thing you want for your birthday: Strawberries (Ok....)
  • How are you celebrating your birthday this year: A party!

As the threenager year comes to a close (finally--back to back years of dealing with threenagers has me dreading the actual teenage years), I feel like sometimes I spent a lot of time lamenting the hard times.

Because lord knows, it was hard sometimes.

But, oh, were there good times. And with how vocal my son has become, there were lots of quotes for the quote wall. Here are some of my favorites.

In teaching my kids how to use descriptive words, we oftentimes play the guessing game where we give clues and try to get each other to guess what we're talking about. B really got into this game this year and his descriptions are my favorite. "Ok guys. He's really sweet and really big. Can you guess who he is? He's daddy!"

He's also very helpful. During the middle of winter he saw my dry feet and said, "Mommy you have an owie on your foot! Here. I'll help. I'll get my hammer."

On one of the first truly beautiful days of spring I put on a maxi dress. When B saw me he said, "Mommy, you look handsome! What a beautiful dress! Are you going to dance with Daddy at the ball?"

While I love his sense of humor and the things he finds funny, I also love how specific he is. One day I said, "Are you a silly monkey?" And he looked at me, very confused and very serious and replied, "No! I'm a boy!"

When B was learning how to drink out of a big boy cup (as opposed to a sippy cup), E was showing him how to do it without spilling. When she finished B said, "Wow, E, you did a great job! I so proud of you! Thanks so much, now I try!"

Every. single. time. we go outside B says, "What's that delicious smell?" He really likes the fresh air apparently. And it always puts a smile on my face.

Riding in the car, B yells out, "Ow! Something is in my eye!" Through the rearview mirror I see his finger is in his eye. I ask, "Is it your finger?" and he replies, "Yeah." Then I advise, "Then don't put your finger in your eye." Life lessons happening every day.

Finally, recently there was a night that B was up and down from bed I think at least a dozen times. I was losing my patience (who am I kidding, it was gone after trip number 5) and when I went in that last time I, rather harshly, asked what was wrong. He looked up at me and just said, "I love you too much, to the whole world."

All the up and downs were instantly forgiven, I gave him a big hug and tucked him back in. As I left the room I told him "I love you too much, too. More than you'll ever know."

Happy Birthday, baby boy.
