Review: Modern Girls

Modern Girls
by: Jennifer S. Brown

3 stars

Honestly, once again more like a 3.5 rating. It was a very quick read but I found the first 2/3 of the book much more entertaining than the last 1/3. The entire book takes place over the span of one month in 1935 and centers on a 19yo and her 42yo mother and how they find themselves in the exact same predicament--unplanned pregnancies.

Funny thing, I was about  a quarter of the way through this novel, thinking about and relating more to the 19yo, when it dawned on me that I am WAY closer in age with the mom. That shifted my thinking a bit and I found myself thinking about the mom more. I have no idea why I gravitated towards the 19yo character at first--maybe that's how I see myself??? (haha)

I FLEW through the majority of this book but the last part felt slow compared to the rest. If it wasn't for this last portion of the book this would have been a 4-star rating. And the ending! If ever there was a book begging for a sequel, it was this one. I want to know what happened next!
